wildfire suns
Mixed media (projection, paper, soot) - varying iterations using soot I collected (and then froze) from washing air filters here in Maryland during the Canadian wildfires of 2023. I've been working with the velvety soot which remains after melting onto paper, sometimes using digital manipulation of the dried residue with hyper-saturation and shifting hues to reveal the flow and ebb of material encoded within the static image. Also layering over time lapse and images of local landscapes to juxtapose sometimes diametric perceptions of time and home: eternal yet fragile, nostalgic while ominous, touched gently by cataclysms far away.
